Jeep-Boat-Jeep between Arenal and Monteverde

This is a unique combination of ground and water transportation, used as a scenic shortcut between La Fortuna/Arenal Volcano and Monteverde, or vice versa.

Jeep-Boat-Jeep is a hotel-door-to-hotel-door service.   Your ticket includes three parts:

• Ground transportation from your hotel to Arenal Lake
• The boat ride across the lake
• Ground transportation from Arena Lake to your destination hotel

Faster than driving all the way around the lake, the Jeep-Boat-Jeep takes you across the lake in comfortable, covered motor boats.

This allows you to enjoy the very scenic landscape at a relaxed pace.  Originally done with 4×4 vehicles, the “jeep” sections of the trip are done today with air-conditioned mini-buses.

Jeep-Boat-Jeep is not operated by Morpho Vans, but we make reservations for our clients who use it as part of their itineraries.   We monitor the Operator to make sure everything works smoothly for you.

Shared Jeep-Boat-Jeep goes twice a day.

How it works:

1. Pick up in La Fortuna or your hotel in the Arenal Volcano area and drive 15 – 20 minutes on a paved road to Arenal Lake.
2. The quiet 40 minute boat trip takes you across Lake Arenal, arriving at Rio Chiquito dock.  Water birds and iguanas are common on the lake and the boat will stop for pictures.
3.  The second drive takes 1.5 hour, on gravel roads, from Rio Chiquito to Santa Elena/Monteverde.  Drop off is directly at your hotel in this area
4. Departure from Monteverde works in the opposite direction, on the same route.

Please note this is not a one-day tour and we do not recommend booking it as a round trip on the same day.  It takes around 3.5 hours to complete the one-way transfer.

We suggest spending one or two nights at each destination and then continue on to your next destination without having to go back over the same ground.
