Monteverde road construction makes progress
The project to enlarge and improve the main road to Monteverde has made huge progress in the last few weeks. A section of several kilometers from Monteverde down is already finished and the big machines have moved down toward the village of Guacimal. While all this is very good news, starting today, Monday April 13th, the road will only be open at night and for a few 20-30 minute intervals during the day. Also the construction will be located further down the mountain, just below the intersection to San Luis. For this reason we can’t keep using the shortcut through San Luis and all trips to/from San Jose, Puntarenas, Manuel Antonio or Jaco must be planned to go through during the opening times. Here is the new schedule: the road will only be open from:
- 9:30 to 9:50 am
- 12 noon to 12:30 pm
- 3 pm to 3:20 pm
- all night from 5:30 pm to 6:30 am
Since the closure is now further away from Monteverde, your pick-up times need to be 30-45 minutes before the closing time, depending on your hotel. Hotels in the town of Santa Elena pick up 30 minutes before. Hotels beyond the town like Fonda Vela, for example, need to start 40 minutes before the closing time. We will plan all pick up times so you will not miss a flight or a ferry and so you won’t get stuck for hours on the road. As always, feel free to contact us if you have any questions or need assistance in planning your trip to Monteverde.
