Monteverde Road Maintenance December 2017 and January 2018

Monteverde Road closure schedule 2018

 

The main road to Monteverde will be closed for maintenance, for several hours every day starting in December 2017.

Closures will stop during the Christmas and New Year Holidays, but will resume on January 4th, 2018.

Just like they have done in previous years, this is not a complete closure.  The road will be open every evening and night, from 5 pm to 7 am.  And it will open for a few minutes to let traffic go up and down, a few times during the day.

This schedule of closures allows us to operate our private transfers to Monteverde normally.  But we must plan ahead so our vans get there at the correct time of the day.

Here is the new schedule:  the road will only be open from:

  • 10 am to 10:30 am
  • 12:30 to 1 pm
  • 3 pm to 3:15 pm
  • all night from 5 pm to 7 am

For transfers starting in Monteverde and Santa Elena, your pick-up times need to be 30-45 minutes before the closing time, depending on your hotel.   Hotels in the village of Santa Elena, pick up  should be 30 minutes before.  Hotels beyond the town like the Fonda Vela, should start 40 minutes before the closing time.

We plan all pick up times so you will not miss a flight or a ferry and we’ll do our best to prevent having to wait while the road is closed.
